Digging is often a sign of boredom. How much exercise does your dog get each day? And how much mental stimulation (training, learning new things, playing mental games) does your dog get each day?

My pup has plenty of toys and gets exercise. He also has two other dogs to lay with and he still dug up a raised garden bed and some bulbs. The bulbs were just planted so I think he was curious. I think he dug up the raised bed because my other dog likes to bury things and he found it. Now he just goes back to the same bed to look for more. It's only been that one bed so far.

How are your puppies about digging in the yard?
 

She gets a ton of exercise and I have a lot of toys. She seems to like mud though.

I play with her constantly. And I focus on her more than myself.

Don't leave her outside alone. My pup did not spend any time alone outside until he was almost a year. The *one* time he did, (when I was not home and DH thought he would be "fine for a few minutes") around 6 months, he tried to drag a sand tube my husband had laying on the patio. After having to clean up all the sand, he understood my rule. :)

Agree with RocketDog - Dog should not be outside without proper containment or supervision. If she is still digging with you around, make a small place for her to dig. Something like a little sandbox with loose dirt and some durable toys - can satisfy her digging craving there.

I have a 2 year old female that *loves* to dig. She'll even dig at the carpet, her bed, or my bed. Girl just likes digging so I let her dig in acceptable places :)

Hose her feet off before she comes in - problem solved!

We have chipmunks living in our yard. My guy likes to sniff out the chipmunk holes and tries to dig down deeper. All the while, he is barking at the hole like a wild man. I really hope he never "catches" a chipmunk.

Agreed... if your pup digs holes, it's YOUR fault for not supervising him, not his :)

lara doesn't dig but she does like to rip the grass out of the ground in clumps if it has just rained. usually that's my signal that it's time to take her in and give her a nap, she gets destructive when she's tired lol
