Does my puppy look like she has gsd in her?
I've had my new pup Scout since she was five weeks old, and she's now six weeks. We'd been driving down a back road when we saw a "Free Puppies" sign and stopped. She had originally been given to another family at four weeks old and they had brought her back because their daughter was allergic. (Or so they said.) Anyway, the lady couldn't afford to keep Scout, and she was keeping her seperate from her mama anyway. My dad figured we couldn't do much worse than what the woman herself was doing.
She said that Scout was 75/25 gsd/beagle mix. I'm just wondering if it's true or not. My grandmother swears she's got St. Bernard in her, but I don't see it in anything except the coloring on her face. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8085/8...89740ab36d.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8086/8...fb8e6b8a82.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8239/8...60708c6271.jpg |
I have no idea what she is- but she is adorable!!!

I'm seeing the beagle. Not really seeing shepherd, though that could change as she gets older. She's very young. Did you see either parent? Do you know what the Mom was? Sometimes the Dad is a mystery. It is possible for a litter to have more than one sire. Whatever Scout is, she is absolutely adorable. Please keep posting pictures as she grows.

Maybe not GSD, but whatever the combo is, she is precious! I agree with the other posters, as she gets older, you may see more of what her make-up is.
She looks so cuddly... |
Very cute pup! :)
I do not see GSD. |
Thanks.
Her mother was a medium-size dog with short-ish brown and black fur and long floppy ears, kind of like over-sized lab ears. I'm not entirely sure what she was mixed with, though the woman claimed she was a beagle/gsd. I've found a couple of dogs that look like the mother by searching "beagle/gsd" in google. However, I've also found dogs that look like her by searching "rottweiler/beagle" and "beagle/lab". The supposed father was the neighbor's dog. From what I saw of him in their yard, he's a black and tan gsd with blanket back and tan marks around his face. I didn't get a close look, though, and like you said, it could've been any dog or multiple dogs. I'm just really curious, and I'm not entirely sure I can take what the woman said at face value, considering she was trying to get us to take the pup and all. She's pretty cuddly and one of the smartest puppies I've ever worked with. She's pretty much already potty-trained and is quickly picking up some basic obedience commands. She got bite-inhibition down quickly as well, though she bites a little too hard when she needs to go outside. At six weeks old, she already weighs 8.2 lbs, according to the vet. Here's a picture I took today, after she got home from the vet and stole my pillow: (Also her ears aren't perky. They fall like that when she sleeps.) http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8390/8...43a6c51d80.jpg |

what do you think your pup is?

No idea. I'm pretty sure she's got beagle in her. Her coloring and coat is classic beagle, medium-length, practically waterproof. Her ears are small compared to a beagle's, and she's got a bit of lift in them. Sometimes they'll do this half-erect thing, though it never lasts more than ten minutes. She's also very big and stocky. If she continues at the rate she's going, she'll be the weight of a beagle in a couple of months, if it even takes that long. Guess, I won't really be able to tell until she's a bit older, though, if I'll even be able to tell then. IfI had to guess, I'd probably just go with gsd, as it's the only thing that really comes to mind. Maybe husky or lab. Possibly border collie, now that I'm really looking at her face. All mutt, but I wouldn't trade her for anything in the world.
I was just curious if anyone on here could see any traits that made her seem like the "breeder's" claims held any water. |
I see no GSD in your pup at all. She's very young and at this age it's difficult to tell almost anything about a puppy.
I see more St. Bernard than Beagle |
