How often do you bring your puppy outside?
I had mine used to going out a few times a day but after finding out that she shouldn't be moving too much as her joints aren't fully developed (10 weeks), I have pulled back.
When she is outside, she runs & jumps. Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks. |
At that age...it should feel like you are living outside. When you are taking them out to potty for potty training purposes they should be on a leash and brought right back in after they go.

I can certainly appreciate the concern with protecting the joints but don't forget normal exercise is good for building good muscle tone. The pup will let you know when she is tired...mine would just plop:)
I loved being outside when my boy was a pup. I used things in our yard to build little obstacle courses. He was running, climbing, balancing, etc. as he grew I was mindful of not over doing it. I have stayed from playing games like frisbee because I don't like how dogs land when they catch. |
you can't keep puppies in a glass bubble:)
Puppies are going to do what they do, we can hold our breath and hope they don't hurt themselves, I would never limit my puppies outside time worrying about joint issues. |
i got my pup at when he was 9 weeks old. i was out with him a lot.
we didn't go far but we were out. we played in the yard and driveway, very short walks, we went to the woods (very short romps). i started step training at 10 or 11 weeks old. i remember when he was 11 or 12 weeks old we walked a mile and he plopped down near the end of the mile. i waited a long time before trying to walk a mile again. by the time he was 18 months old we were going 5 miles in the woods at a slow pace. the slow pace was more for me than him. :). there's no need to rush things. slow and steady. what's your pup jumping at 10 weeks old? |
I'm potty training a 9 week old and we are outside once every hour at least.
