Three times today he notified me he wanted to go outside and potty! He nudged the bell twice and scratched at the door once. He is 9 weeks old and has been with us a week and a half. Proud dad!

The crate has been a big part of it. He loves his crate which allows us to put him in it between breaks. It has been tedious but he goes out immediately out of the crate. If he goes potty he get a treat and gets to come in and play. If he doesn't go he goes back in the crate for about 15 minutes then back out again. No play time outside.....just business! When he is out of his crate we took him out after about 20 minutes of play time. Same routine....if he goes he gets to come in and play...if not he goes in the crate again. We hung a bell from the door knob. I touched it to his nose every time out and he is figuring it out. The accidents he had were not punished and were met with a stern "no" and outside. In between we watch him like a hawk. So far so good!

Omg that face... Those ears! Those PAWS! *gushes* Congrats on potty training! I think we're starting to get through to my aunt's pup, though she doesn't go to the door to be let out. I just notice a change in her behavior and today she started whining when she had to go out instead of looking for an out of the way place to go potty... >.>; Always so nice to see things making progress.
Keep up the good work! : ) |
