I was LOL at my 'odd duck' this morning. It was snowing outside, which he absolutely LOVES! I caught him, though, having one of his 'moments'. He was just standing there, looking up....watching the snow fall.
I wasn't totally surprised, as this was a pup who watched the sun, chased butterflies, stopped to watch the leaves in the trees when the wind blew, and when the leaves started to fall would just stand there watching them come down. I think he's an old soul. He takes time to 'smell the roses'. On another note, his creativity or frustration... not sure which, led him to discover that the carpet in the house has 'edges' at doorways and corners. He's decided that he doesn't like the carpet, I guess, and has started to pull it up. This wouldn't be such a HUGE issue, if we were still in the house that I owned. However, being that we're now in a RENTAL, this is a big, big issue!!! I told him NO in the harshest of terms, and he went back at it again! So he earned himself kennel time. I guess we're back to if I can't have eyes on him all the time, he's in the kennel. We were past that. All this snowy, crappy weather is going to be the death of both of us!! It's obvious that he can't just 'not be walked' because of the prong collar. He's going to have to be walked. Sometimes it's hard to remember he's still a puppy, because when I look at him I don't see a pup anymore most of the time. He's a very determined pup, though, so I don't know how hard it will be to rid him of this new habit. I hope he gets over it before we end up having to re-carpet! In the meantime, if someone's doing some renovations and needs their old carpet removed... I have the guy for you!!

Never heard a truer statement!
I have to say, though, even with all of that, he's still my favorite dog... like ever. I think he'll be an outstanding adult, if he lives that long, LOL!

Ah, yes, the carpet thing.
What I have noticed is how horrifyingly fast they do this ...it takes all of two seconds to rip up a good chunk and pull several threads out of the carpet. ![]() Does he watch airplanes and helicopters, too? I couldn't believe it the first time I saw mine follow a plane's trajectory high in the sky. |

Gunnar learned about carpet when I still had his wire enclosure on the wood floor in the kitchen. He'd jump up on the side of enclosure and push it to the carpet and then start nibbling the fibers. I left the room for a while and came back to a pile of carpet fiber and the edge where the wood met the carpet was bare down to the tack board.
thankfully we had the carpet stretched and were able to cover up the indiscretion. |

He looks for them, yes. Haven't yet had one where we could see it. (Him looking up makes me look up) I'll let you know when one's actually in view. Yes... it was incredibly fast!
Luckily (so far) the damage has been minimal, but still. Thorny, that is scary, and I don't put it past Grim to have this kind of damage. He's going back under 'tight monitoring' now because I can't afford to have him damage this house. I can only hope that this fascination passes quickly!!

Glad I have all hardwood floors.
![]() LOL Ollie does the same thing, I've got pictures of him just sitting there watching the wind blow the leaves in the trees... He was utterly fascinated by it. Not sure about that white stuff though since we don't get that here.

I love Grim
He's such a character and he makes me realise that as much as Hex is a handful he could be so much more trouble. He sounds like he's just sooo full of energy Maybe he'd be good at pulling a sled or something that will require a bit of "work" besides just walking? I'm looking at a springer bike attachment because Hex seems to need more exercise than he's getting from just a walk. |

OMG- I just caught him at it AGAIN!! I was (of course) waiting to see if he'd do it... so I wasn't 'catching' him actually... but when I got after him... NOTHING! He didn't even bother to put his ears back!
I have to say, having a dog who doesn't respond to an angry/upset handler is a little unnerving.
