I think that should be clear from a puppy. At least it was with my Sting. The markings - how much black like in the saddle or blanket, takes longer - I think with my Sting it wasn't until 6 months or so.

I would say it is not certain at a young age. My girl was very black with only tan on top of her feet but has turned very tan and black. That being said she looked like all of her littermates(7 boys 1 girl) but only 1 of her brothers is black and tan like her. The rest are black and red. Also, her mom was black and tan as a pup but changed to black and red.
