New puppy help - biting, baby, etc

So we brought home our new 8 week old boy Jäger.

He is my first dog since I left home (I'm 33 now). I have a wife who stays home with our 3 month old baby.

So far Jäger is a good dog. He has the usually puppy challenges. The only one that really worries me is the biting. He seems pretty calm compared to a lot of the stories I see on here. However, for a few hours a day he goes into shark mode. :help:

I know this is 100% normal and he is just a baby.

My main concern is our baby. Jäger seems fine with her and visa versa but he likes to explore with his mouth.

Also just today Jäger broke skin on my buddies nose. It was his fault as he started to play really rough and Jäger just returned the favor.

I am trying to teach biting is not ok by IPING!! like a litermate and then I segregate him for 5 mins.

I wonder if he is getting enough exercise. It was -4 today and he doesn't seem like he wants to be outside for very long. I am trying to at least make him walk for 10 mins a day and play with him inside.

We are very active people and when his bones mature he is going to be getting some serious miles in. In the winter too when his coat comes in.

I am trying to take him everywhere with me and socialize him as we'll as get a lot of people through our house.

A trainer is coming over Saturday but I can't start puppy classes until he is 12.

Anyway advice please.

Keep him on a lead around your baby at all times, tie him to your belt or to a piece of furniture when they are in the same room. Your baby and puppy are too small to be together.

Thanks for the advice.

Not to get too far ahead of myself but at what age might my GSD be safe around the baby. He is going to get bigger much quicker than my baby human will. :)

9-12 months, but the age will vary with the dog.

Don't forget about those puppy nails. They are extremely sharp too.
