Default Running away :C

Hi there! So I have been trouble playing Fetch with Zack. I know you need to teach it, but... Zack is a greedy dog! When he gets the toy and when I try to take it back, he runs away from me, hah! It can be annoying at times as he wants to play the "my owner chases me around the house while I run around with my tongue out" game. How can I stop him from running away and how can I teach him fetch properly? :/
Thanks!

When he brings back the toy trade him for a treat to drop the toy and teach him a drop or release command.

I didnt really teach kai how to play on purpose, just came.

When i threw his ball hed run get it run back but when i went for it he would move his head and run away. I ignored him, with in 2 mins hed come to me and drop the ball near me, id praise him and throw again.

I then used treats instead of praise. Now he comes back to me and drops it with in 30 secs of picking all though he does have days where he forgets where to drop it

I think once he realised im not going to play with him on his terms, he came over dropped the ball and let the game start over

I use two of the same toy and have the dog on a long line. If he starts walking off after fetching the toy, I start running *away* from him and acting really exciting, keeping the long line so he can't run any farther. If I need to, sort of reel him in. Then I make the toy I have really interesting and throw that one when he drops the one he fetched.
