Puppy on stairs

I have two puppies. Yes, it's a lot of work. My girl is 8 months old and my boy is 3 months both are very active. The boy is Very large for his age and hasn't learned how to go down stairs. He just wants to leap. This guy has no fear. I'm so afraid he'll get hurt. How can I teach him? He runs up all the time I have to run up and carry him down. Any suggestions??

Put up gates so he can't run up without you watching

Leash him going up and down so you can keep him going slow

Are the stairs carpeted?

If so, leave him up there and he'll eventually come down on his own.

Lisl had a 15 step flight of carpeted stairs mastered at 8 weeks.

It could be dangerous for him if they are not carpeted. If you've ever seen a German Shepherd, or practically any dog for that matter on a hardwood floor you'll see them sliding around like they're on ice.

The stairs are hardwood. My girl runs up and down all day long. He is too big to have all four paws on on stair like she did in the beginning. I'll try bringing him down a few times with a leash on. Hopefully that will help
I can get him to start slow but when he gets close to the bottom maybe 5-6 steps up he just wants to leap out like he's diving into a pool. Fearless this boy is I don't want him to get hurt
Thank you for your suggestions
