Default Help! Need to know breed type

Hi there,

I recently adopted a dog from an owner who clearly could not care for her properly (the dog is 10 months old). Trouble is, I need help identifying the actual breed of Shepherd. She appears to closely resemble a Shiloh Shepherd. The previous owner thought the same but since they bought her from a shelter they are unsure. I have attached a couple pictures of her. If anyone can help me identify her (I know it'll be hard to just by looking) that would be very helpful! Thanks

She looks like a very nice long coat sable colored German Shepherd.

Without knowing the parents there is no way to know EXACTLY what breed she might be.

She appears to be a long coat, sable, German shepherd. she's a beauty. I doubt she's a Shiloh. I think they tend to be larger dogs with a bigger bone structure.

How big is she? Shiloh shepherds are big. She looks to me like a long haired, plush coat GSD - lovely dog.

She is a lot bigger than she looks. My sister has a GSD (1 yr old) and she is already bigger than him. She is approx. 70 lbs at just over 10 months old. She is much taller than most Shepherds that I see. As you can see she does have quite a long coat.

I wouldn't really go purely off sizes either, though. She looks like a long haired sable GSD. My girl is sixty pounds at two years. But her brother is 145 lbs.
Plus, Shiloh shepherds aren't very common, at least from what I've seen.

She is beautiful! My Long coat white shepherd is 75 lbs and 27" high at the shoulder. She is a BIG dog, but not overly so. I suppose if we did not watch her food and exercise she could be big, fat dog, but we are very careful to not let that happen.

Your girl is really stunning. How fortunate for her that you can provide a great home. Congratulations to you both.

She's not a shiloh, she's a long coat sable GSD. Most likely a purebred as well. 70 lbs at 10 months isn't out of the ordinary, especially for a female who might not really fill out any more. 100 lb females aren't that rare in our breed anymore.

I've seen a shiloh in person, they have a GSD face, but their ears are smaller and you can clearly see the malamute in them. Shilohs are also generally grey or silver with white. They have bred out the dark brown and blacks out of them. One of my club members has a 10 mo. old female right now out of American Show lines that towers over my boy by a good 2 inches, and he's 2.5 years old. When I saw the shiloh...my boy looked like a puppy next to him. He was at least 180 lbs if not clearly over 200 at 1.5 years old.

She's just a larger shepherd. Probably a mix of a bunch of lines since working lines tend to be smaller and for her to get that size she'd have to get some show lines in there somewhere. But then again genetics are funny and sometimes you just get those outliers.
