well I would say breeders who have kept puppies from a litter would be more the ones who have been with puppies since the first day.
The earliest I spent time with one of mine was when they were about 3 weeks old, it was Dodge who has since passed, my heart dog, he turned out to be everything I ever wanted in a german shepherd.

My first GSD Beau (RIP) I got to meet when she was 2-3 days old. We went to the breeders to meet her other pups and got to sneak a peek in on the new litter we were expecting our pup from. My family and I visited every week until 8 weeks when we brought her home. I was about 10-12 then and it was quite the experience.
Stark I met when he was about 4 weeks old, visited a few times per week until he came home at 8 weeks. Zefra I got to meet extremely early and watch her progress. It was a real treat to see this little sausage grow into a crazy wild puppy.

Thanks for your responses. My son co-owns his GSD with the breeder, who had 13 puppies Dec. 31. He said when ours was born, he knew right away that she was destined for us. She came out keening and has remained the most vocal one of the bunch. Compard to her siblings, Ziva looks to be the hog of the bunch.
I had never seen GSD pups younger than 6 weeks old and was surprised at their sausage'esque appearance. Not being boxy-nosed as adults, the blunt little faces I saw :with rolls at the bridge of their noses: took me aback. All the other pups are jet black with the early signs of masking. Ziva is more of a dark, dark brown. Her masking appears to be silvery. |
