Well it's time to bid the warm weather of Florida goodbye I am leaving for NYC more than likely tomorrow evening, at latest Sunday early in the A.M. (I'm talking like 12 *a.m.* Sunday.)
I'm doing a straight shot, stopping only for rest rooms, and for Barack to stretch his legs for brief intervals. I'd like to arrive in the afternoon on Christmas eve. So here's what I need to know ASAP. He's going entire nights without any potty issues now, which is why I'd like to start the trip at night. After his last potty, load him up for bed, then go for 8-9 hours. So my question is how often should stop during his normal waking hours? Just his Normal 4-5 hours? or will he need more or less stops? Should I leave him is his crate the whole trip?(I'm mean while we're in motion) I have a Kong harness with seat belt, should I let him ride shotgun while his wide awake? or Always in the back seat? Should I alternate crating and seat belt? Will he eat while the car is in motion? He eats cookies and snacks now when we ride around, but will he eat meals? Will he need a jacket for the weather change in NYC?...it's much colder. Also since it's colder and he's basically spent the last 2 months in a warmer climate, is there a risk of him getting a cold? Should i reduce his walks in the cold? If yes... How long till he's ok with the climate change? How will the change of venue more than likely effect him? There are children where I am going, he's very friendly(trust me the submissive peeing a PITA atm), but should i keep him crated more than usual for the first few days in his new environment? Should I have the children leave him be for the 1st few days? Or if he goes to them should I just allow him to investigate them? The kids are 9,13,and 14. Of course he will be under my supervision the entire time when he is loose, and crated when I'm not there. Thanks in advance for any help with any part of the questions which any of you may be able to answer or help me out with. If you guys think of anything I haven't thought of PLEASE put it out there.

Usually I won't feed a pup before sending them for a long car ride. So if you leave at midnight and skip breakfast, the pup has a better chance at not getting car sick. I would probably stop every three hours, but if he is quiet and sleeping, wait for him to start moving around, and then hit the next exit. I wouldn't use rest stops. Everyone potties their dogs there and that could be a place to pick up Germs. I would stop at McDonalds.

Also wondering how much time I should give him out of the car now...i mean I don't want to drag the trip out by having to walk him around for 20-30 a stop...think 5-10 minutes should be enough? (granted that he potties)
