Default Eye infection won't go away

We have a 17 week old pup named Otto and he developed an eye infection just before thanksgiving it started with just clear drainage then proceeded into the green/yellow goop, the vet put him on neopolydex 2x a day and after a week it was not getting better so they added an oral of clavamox 2x a day. Well he still has 5 days left of that and his eye is still weeping just clear fluid but its still red when I check the eye. It's only one eye they ruled out allergies and a cut or scratch. Have any of you dealt with such a stub burn eye infection? I read the eye ointment and it states not to use for too long bc it can cause the infection to become resistant to the meds. Any advice would be great. TIA

Welcome to the board!

You could ask your vet for a referral to an eye vet - worth it to get it taken care of, and ask for your vet to call and get your pup in ASAP. I would also ask about clogged tear ducts.

I agree with the above. Eyes are not really fun things to mess around with, so if you could get a referral for a specialist from your vet, that's the way I would go.

Good luck!

I spoke to a good friend who is a vet who specializes in GSD and he suggested that I switch to a different eye ointment which has been filled. He checked the third eyelid and all is clear he thinks Otto may be having a reaction to the neopolydex so he wants him on gentimicine (sp) he thinks that would be much better for him, then he will check him in one week. Thanks for the replies.
