Exactly how I felt about my Pekingese.
I cave up on having him play fetch after, ohhh, 5 years of trying. ![]() He was black and tan, and we jokingly called him our Chinese Shepherd, because we really wanted a GSD but didn't have the time or space for one. Heyyy I just realized, maybe it's their smooshed faces that restrict brain development.

glad it worked
You will end up being able to phase that out I'm sure. What I end up doing is starting to throw my hand signal IN with the fist down as well, then phase out the fist down.. And yeppie I think pugs are cute little dogs who have their own agendas

Lol, I just watched this video. I love how you tell Grim that you "don't care". I say the same to Charlie all the time, lol. Good assertive commands by the way

He knows the hand signal for sit. Following the advice of this forum, I'd go to the door and give him the signal for sit...then wait. I didn't correct him for jumping, I really couldn't. The moment he sat, I opened the door. The connection came quickly after that. I did have to wait...and wait..and wait till he figured it out the first time. Now, he'll go to the door and sit..most of the time. Sometimes he'll get overly excited and jump, but it is rare.

That's really cool! I wouldn't have thought of that. I didn't have to wait long..like maybe 3 seconds. He KNEW what I wanted, but I'd created a monster because I was allowing him to be naughty. It was just so cute, I didn't realize that I was shooting myself in the foot. My wife laughs when he acts up...which does NOT help, but I was doing something just as bad.
