Not a GSD, but help picking...

Hobson our GSD is almost 2. I'm ready to add a small dog into our home. I've always wanted a French Bulldog as well. I went to look at a breeder. She has one, but he's 20 weeks. He was very shy, friendly but shy. Her adults were very outgoing. Will he always be like that if he is now? Hobson would LOVE to have a playmate but I don't want the FB to be scared.
I know this isn't a GSD but you guys are always so helpful!

Consider the breed standard for the personality and temperament of a french bulldog. The Frenchies I've met have been spunky and outgoing. I would be wary of a shy pup.

Temperament
The French Bulldog, like many other companion dog breeds, requires close contact with humans. They have fairly minimal exercise needs, but do require at least daily walks. As a flat-faced breed, it is essential that owners understand that French Bulldogs cannot live outdoors.

French Bulldogs are very sweet and an excellent companion. The French Bulldog rarely barks and if he does it's often to draw attention, to point out that he needs something or just because he is not happy. This breed is patient and affectionate with its owners, especially with children, who are especially protected by the females. French Bulldogs can easily live with other breeds when the proper introductions are done.

I know thats why I'm concerned. If he was younger I wouldn't worry, but at 20 weeks I'm worried this will just be his personality. The breeder says he'll always be gentle and laid back but won't be shy/scared.
The reason I think maybe shes right is that his sister is the same but all her adults were outgoing. I've never had a FB before, so I don't know if this is normal for the age.

There are a few frenchie boards out there. Perhaps you would get better answers by inquiring there. Maybe frenchies "grow" out of it, but it would be best to ask experts used to the breed. The sister is the same? Was this the first time this particular cross was done? How have the stud and dam produced in the past? Do they always produce pups that are shy at first and then develop normal frenchie personalities? How has the breeder proven her knowledge and ability with the breed? Showing, conformation, obedience etc? How can she demonstrate the soundness and health of her breeding stock? Some questions that I would consider before getting a dog from this person.
