13 week old male

Hi all! This is my first post here so I'm still figuring it out :)
Yesterday afternoon my boyfriend and I brought home a 13 week old all black male. So on the ride home he slept, which was expected, we got home, he wouldn't leave his crate, again expected. We finally got him out, but he doesn't play, is pretty scared to look around the house and whimpers when we go out of sight. He is unusually calm, like creepy quiet and just lays down watching/sleeping. He won't even walk with the leash on, even with food motivation or knealing down and being all cheery! He's crate trained and for the most part potty trained, no accidents here yet. He's just so un-puppy like! This morning I finally got him to go outside with out us having to carry him to go potty and he walked better than last nights try. He's been eating and going to the bathroom normally, and slept through the night.
Sorry for the ramble! I guess I really just want to know if how he's acting is normal as this is My own first puppy (but definitely not the first GSD in my life).
I forgot to mention the breeder did give him his 3rd set of shots along with another deworming, so are the shots making him sleepy?
I'm sure I'm just over reacting. Any thoughts are welcomed!

I'd give him a few days to adjust and get acclimated to his new home :) Congrats on your new puppy

Thank you very much Diane! I figured it'd take a couple days or so, but just wanted to be sure. :)

Welcome and congrats on your new puppy!

Is he doing better today? I agree that he needs to adjust ... BUT he shouldn't be lethargic either ...

here's hoping he kept you up all night LOL

Sounds pretty normal for the first couple of days. Soon you'll be wondering where the quiet puppy went!

Welcome, your puppy is:
Probably missing his littermates.
Feeling yucky from the shots.
Trying to adjust to a new environment.
Trying to adjust to his new human and best friend.

As someone else mentioned it will take a couple of days for him to come around and you are going to be saying I wish that boy would take a nap. Enjoy your new baby and if you would we love pics on here if you would like to share.

Hi everyone! Thank you very much for all the answers. Today, Sarge seems to be puppy-ish, well more of a grown up puppy! He is still calm, gets a little scared but he's been sorta jumping around and finally playing with his toys, he's very sweet too. We took him on a walk and to the beach! (Don't worry, he didn't go into the water), he loved running on the sand. As for being a grown up puppy, he is really good in and out of his crate, he didn't even cry the first night! Just whimpered for one minute and then went to sleep. No accidents or anything, we did a little test run this after noon, we had family nap time (my boyfriend works 3rd shift) and we left his crate open and he slept on the floor and when we woke up he was in his crate. He and my cat love each other haha. I'm hoping he warms up soon, he doesn't come when you call or even for a treat, I'm hoping this is just the first few day thing.
As for pictures, let me see if I can figure how to upload them :)

Good looking, good sized pup. Everything that you've said seems completely normal, as far as trying to get him to come etc, it's never too early to start clicker training. Even if you just click normal behaviors like everytime he sits, lays, or comes to you on his own. I have a 6 month old blackie myself and he's pretty well behaved but I definitely wish I'd have started clicker training earlier. Just a thought, good luck!

you and your bf are new to the pup. the enviroment is new,
the smells are new. once he's settled in, look out. enjoy the new pup.
