I've noticed a few times now that if I'm standing several feet away... but out of a clear line of sight from Grim... and I call his name, he'll go all over the place as if he doesn't know where I'm at.
He even went back to my wife and looked at her the last time... Each time he goes into his crazy hyper mode, so I've chalked it up to him not paying attention. If we're out of the house and he hears something, he has no problem finding where it's coming from. However, inside... especially if he knows it's a time when we work and he gets treats, he just goes nuts running around. I keep calling him, but it takes him awhile to figure out where I am. The last time he ran AWAY from where I was at first. I just don't get this at all. Is he just so worked up that he can't think straight?? I know he has a very hard time paying attention because of his puppy brain AND because of his energy level. However, I was actually concerned the last time because I had to say his name so many times before he realized I was standing about 15 feet from where he started.

Is he trying to find you by scent? If you think this is what he's doing, then his nose / brain is working overtime trying to find you because your scent is everywhere!!!

HA HA HA HA HA HA ... that was a good one!!! As a grey owner, I can relate to that ... thankfully Kyleigh hasn't been exposed to that yet ... but it will come!
My grey does tell her to sit and stay ... she complies! And then gives me a look like why?

Actually, it could be... his nose seems to always be to the ground.
I've thought about the parrot thing, too. Not only from Ziva constantly saying "Come here" and whistling for the dogs, but also because the aratingas are so loud at times that the house turns into a madhouse! However, they weren't doing this at the time, because it was night and they were covered. One of the problems I have with getting his attention on me (looking at me) is that he's always smelling something...so his head is down more than up.

He may be trying to sniff me out, though.

I thought of sniffing you out mainly because you mentioned you were out of sight! It would be like hide and seek ... they have to find you by scent b/c they can't see you!
