Default Paws?

So I've been trying to take my pup everywhere and doing my best to take him on off-road walks. Today I found an AMAZING place, but it was a little rocky and after walking for... had to be less than ten minutes, I checked my pup's paws and saw that he was bleeding a bit (it stopped after a while, but I didn't want it to get any worse so I picked him up and took him back to the car). Me and my mom even joked about getting him some dog shoes!
But anyways, I want to take him out more, I want him to see the world but can anyone give me some tips on keeping his paws pain-free?

If I remember correctly the Keys have a lot of dead corral that has sharp edges. You could try boots for his feet.

I'm not so concerned about the coral, more concerned about rocks, asphalt, etc. I try to walk on grass, but we don't have a lot of grass down here.

Would prefer to stay away from booties
