We finally switched Viking over to the 36" wire crate (with an insert) from his previous 26" that had bedding. We don't have any bedding for the 36". I've thought about getting a crate cover and bed, but I've heard that when pups start teething they'll eat their own bed and it's just not worth getting one until that's over with.
However, I noticed he slips around a lot on the plastic. He's ten weeks. I really need to help him with his coordination. He's mostly fine outdoors now but on tile and on the plastic in his crate he tends to slip around and not find good footing. He kind of "slides" into a down position and sit position. He also likes to paw at the plastic bottom and make a lot of noise. Is it normal for him to still be slipping around at 10 weeks? Is there anything I can do to help with it? Should I get a bed?

NO! Don't get a bed. My 5 month old just shredded his yesterday. I wish I had never gotten him used to one in his crate now (see my thread this morning about the Free Puppy).
Other than that, I have no suggestions for the slipping.

i second not getting a bed. my dog also destroyed his when he was a baby. if it makes you feel any better, chobahn still slides on the kitchen floor when he's sitting. he just sliiiiiiiiiiides right into a down. your dog will be fine.

The only thing i would think about putting in the crate is an old blanket or towel i would not miss... My husband thought he was being nice and got her an orthopedic bed.... gone... fixed it, gone again...
good luck though! |

I wouldn't get a bed either.(Not blankets our towels either, they are easier to chew up than a dog bed.)
Not only do they usually chew them up, which can be dangerous if they eat it, but the vast majority of dogs, especially ones with a coat like a GSD, get WAY too hot. It is cooler for them to lay in the crate "as is".
