Hi,
I am just curious since I am hoping to bring home my GSD pup in a five to six months if the breeder chooses me and I was up last night writing up a 'plan' for everything I will do for the first few months the GSD pup is with me. Things like socialization, puppy exercise, diet and feeding schedule, choosing a vet, sleeping arrangements etc.So I decided to ask the people with GSDs already, if you had a time machine and could go back to when you were planning or just gotten your pup, what would you change? It can be anything from a different sex or coat colour to things such as training or corrections. Thanks! |

I would have gone slower in schutzhund. I got excited and put a lot on her young. She hasnt been affected much by it but I think some stuff wouldnt need so much fine tuning if I had spent more time on basics.

I would not have screwed his bite-work up last summer without knowing I was doing it until I had done it

Also, crate train!!! I crate trained my gsd and it is incredible and makes life so much easier. I didnt do it for my lab and everytime I leave him alone Im worried about what hes up to..

If I could go back in time before I got Sinister, I would not change a thing. I would still buy him from that byb, I dont like her or her breeding program but Sinister is the best thing in the world.
If I could go back in time before I got Malice I would have either gone with a different litter from the same breeder and would have gotten a male instead or I would have bought a Dalmatian puppy instead like I was thinking about doing at the time.

I got Shenzi when she was 2 years old. She was wild, didn't know 'sit', came up the leash on me multiple times, didn't know how to play, wouldn't chew on bones, was scared and reacted to everything and everyone...
I wouldn't change a thing. She has really changed in the last 2 years and I'm pleased to say she's basically a normal dog now

If I could go back in time, I would never have brought him to the dog park. I listened to all the wrong people and didn't step in when my pup was being bullied and now he's reactive to other dogs. I stopped going to the park but too late in the game. We have a lot of work to do now to bring his confidence up.
