Sadie is 7 months now. She was spayed at 5 months and goes without saying, her growth spurts have slowed down. But over-all, she seems very tiny for this breed. Her bone structure/width seems almost miniature to me. Her height is around 21 inches, her weight I'm guessing is somewhere near 49-50. Her vet had told me she expected Sadie to reach average size, (64-68 pounds) for this breed at 9-10 months, indicating she would be done growing. But I'm curious if her bone structure will continue to widen and when she will actually stop growing? She has this very petite head. I realize she will fill out some more with maturity and I'm not hung on up on 'size'. I'm just a bit baffled at how small she appears. Her parents were both 70-80 pounds
I'm also curious about how much thicker her coat will get? She seems to have a very short, thinner coat. I'm attempting to add a photo here but if it doesn't work, you can view her recent pictures in my album. She's really not small for her age at all. If I remember correctly, Halo was 55 or 56 pounds at a year old, and by then most of her growing was done. She put on a couple more pounds between a year and 18 months, but at 3 years old she's still about 60 pounds, which is the midpoint of the standard for a female.
Sadie will continue to fill out for another 6 months to a year, and not everything grows at the same rate. Halo was a pinhead for a long time, but thank goodness she finally grew a head! Her back end matured before her front end did so she was butt-high too, which seemed to accentuate the small head. It all worked out in the end, and I'm sure that it will with Sadie too.

Yes, the high butt does make the head appear even smaller, as do her huge ears. I need to get an accurate weight on her but I think she's doing well over-all. I don't think she's gained too much since her spay, so I'm guessing the 50ish range.
I wasn't sure how much more growing to expect. My last Shep was much larger in frame and by 8 months, she was already at the 70 mark and her height was 24". Folks already comment at how tiny she is. I love her to death regardless

The last time I measured Uschi she was around 25 inches I think. A year ago she weighed 56 lbs and she was 1.5 yrs old. About 6 months ago she weighed 62 lbs and she was 2 yrs old. Her next vet visit is next month so I'll be curious to see what she weighs now.
I know she has filled out more not only in her body...but in her face too, but to me she is still "small" framed. Don't worry...Sadie will still grow and fill out more as she matures. She probably won't get to the size of your previous GSD...but I wouldn't worry about her growing. As long as she is healthy thats what matters more. ![]() BTW...she is a cutie!

Everyone thinks that my puppy is going to be a big girl, but I think she's petite. She's about 35 pounds at 4.5 months, but she looks to thin to me. She is sprouting upward rather quickly.

And of course I got out the tape measure and she is 19 inches, is that average at her age?

Halo was a pinhead for a long time, but thank goodness she finally grew a head!
Her back end matured before her front end did so she was butt-high too, which seemed to accentuate the small head. LOL! I have the same issue with my Cheyenne. Her face is very delicate, with a dainty narrow snout and tiny nose. She's cute as a button but I hope she gets a bit larger. She's 53 pounds at 6.5mths, now growing very slowly. She is also Butt high!!! I thought it was something that was wrong. Thanks so much for telling me it all evens out!!!! I have a friend whose Great dane is grown and his butt is fat and is about 5 inches higher than his front...very odd!
