Obviously, if the parents are fairly close in size/weight, it's pretty easy. But what about the times when there is a large disparity in size or type? Say one parent is 30 lbs heavier than the other, or one is slimmer and more athletic while the other is much more substantial? Do you just average out the weight between the two (so a puppy from a 30 lb dog and a 60 lb dog would probably be 45), or does it tend to follow genders (male puppies are more dad's size/type, and females more mom's), or can you generally look at the puppies and infer who will take after which parent based on their size/appearance relative to other littermates?

My dog's parents were VASTLY different in size. So it was a crap shoot. Her father was massive, but her mother was very petite. Well, she turned out to take after her father, and is above breed standards. She is 26 iches tall (22-24 is standard for a female) and 75 lbs (60-65 is standard for a female). I must say that she could lose 5 lbs. She is NOT overweight...but a little thicker than I'd like her to be. I guess you really just won't know until they are full grown.
