Did anybody read Caesar's book in how to raise the perfect dog? For those of you that did and then got a puppy.... could you please share your opinions on what worked and what didn't? What you used and did not? Etc....
Not looking for peoples opinions on cedars methods... but his specific advise given in this book on raising a puppy. Thanks! |

I liked this book. I thought it was full of good advice and practical information. There are a couple of things I disagree with, like neutering at 6 months and using pee pads for housebreaking, but overall I liked it.

I'm curious as to why you disagreed with pee pads? I haven't read the book but did use pee pads when house training and they worked quite well. |

I read the book. The first 3 chapters put me to sleep. The rest of it was boring and uninformative ... nothing I found useful.
This was not the fault of the book. Having raised other dogs I just didn't find anything new in it. Last edited by PaddyD; 01-24-2012 at 10:54 AM. |

I read the book and a TON of other resources before bringing home my 8-week-old. I would consider it one of many resources to consult, but not gospel.
I do like Cesar and watching his show. I don't agree with everything he does but I feel like I can learn a little something every time I watch. Cesar has a natural way with dogs and commanding respect, and he makes everything look and sound easy when it's not easy for everyone.

I liked the book and found very good helpful tips in there. I do disagree with the pee pads. I prefer the paperless training method. It just makes more sense to me to make it unacceptable to pee or poop in the house from the start.

Also I've heard several stories of puppies tearing up their pee pads and even ingesting them when left alone.

I could definitely see how it would be confusing but it did save us countless hours of sleep during the first couple months. Now that she can hold it through the night they are unnecessary. |
