Default Exercise question

hi,

max is 3.5 months and i have him for about a month, he weighs around 38 lbs. since he's a puppy I really dont worn him out by excercise. i usually play ball and let him run around in my yard. Today, i took him to park, and we walked/ran around 2.5 miles for a first time. after coming home he looks so tired and just falls asleep. for his age how much is too much?

you should not play ball with him HD can be caused by environment i.e twisting and turning of the joints. running to a ball stop and quick turn to come back to you. keep play time short but do it a few times a day. a short slow walk is fine 2.5 miles is a lot in my opinion at that age but i want to give my boy all the chance in the world for his growth plates to close proper I have the rest of his life to play ball and run with him as a healthy adult

Have you had a chance to go thru this section yet (click this --> Proper Exercise for puppies ) ?

OFF leash activities are best, PLUS new people/places. If you can find a great puppy class that is ideal.

at 4 months old we were walking a mile.
we were walking at a slow an easy pace.
we stopped for a break and a drink of water.
i slowly increased the distance of the walk.
by the time my dog was 15/18 months
we were walking 5 miles. the 5 miles was
at an easy pace with several stops.
i think my dog was 4 or 5 months
old when he started retrieving. my
neighbor/sitter taught my dog to
retrieve. he started retrieving
in the house, then the yard.
as my pup got stronger
we started retriving in the park,
the woods and open spaces where
i could throw his ball farther.
i say build up to distance
and stamina slowly.
