Default How much to feed new puppy

I just got my new puppy. He is 7 weeks old today. I have had him for a week. I am not sure if I am feeding him enough?? I feed him about 5 times a day, small amounts each time, but he always acts like he is starving....How much should I be feeding him a day?? He weighs 9-10lbs if that makes a difference any. Thanks

Does the food that you are feeding if it is kibble have a feeding chart on the bag? Sometimes you have to go on the manufacturers web site to see their feeding chart. It is better to feed multiple meals to new puppies, I fed mine 3 times a day. Good luck with your new puppy, and we love pictures on here if you would like to share.

He's awfully young to be away from his litter, but like the last poster I also fed 3 times a day. Try moving him to that schedule and see if he feels more full with the bigger meal. What kind of food are you feeding him?

My puppy was older when I got her at eight weeks. I fed her one cup three times a day. The food I give her his Nutro Large Breed Puppy.

Its real hard to come up with a feeding schedule that fits every puppy. I prefer to give one or two wet meal's with extra goodies in one of them, like an egg once in a while, probiotics like plain yogurt, also vitamin C, and some raw introduced slowly. I have always let puppies free range on dry pUpPy kibble until 3-4 months and then switch to aDuLt food while still continuing with the free range. Whats worked best for me is to give them all they need for growth and not shorting nutrition for a schedule.

The one caveat with this is weight balance, best to keep them on the thin side through the growing process. Most of my puppies I have never had to stop the free range because of weight. Very active here though.

Thats what makes the one size fits all here a challenge, metabolism and activity. The unknowns....
