I just purchased her yesterday. The breeder is claiming she is 12 weeks old. If so is it possible she a really small runt of the litter? or did I get ripped off? I got the paper to register her on akc.com and all the numbers checked out. I was just wondering if anyone can tell me if she might be cross breeded?

She looks purebred and she looks very cute. How much does she weigh?
Tell me because I'm curious-- we get this question on this forum about once a week where someone bought a puppy and their first post is wondering if it's purebred. This is not an attack on you; I'm just wondering: Why would you buy a dog from someone you didn't trust not to rip you off and sell you a mixed breed dog?

She weighs close to 10 pounds. I was referred to this breeder by a close friend. I assumed she was a runt, but after researching last night I saw where they should be close to 20 pounds or more at 12 weeks. I have a vet appt. tomorrow to have her checked out.

I agree with you Emoore... Why would you buy a dog from someone that you suspect would rip you off? Also, shouldn't you have investigated this concern BEFORE purchasing the puppy?
Anyway... yes the puppy looks pure. If you have serious concerns, you can purchase a DNA kit and see for sure. There are wide ranges for weights. You could just have a small female or she could develop slower. But a trip to the vet to rule out worms or parasites is a good idea.

But even if she's a mix or to small she'd still make a wonderful pet. BTW DNA tests are a waste of money. On another forum I am on, a woman ran a DNA test on her purebred (pedigreed/registered) AmStaff and the test came back saying Border collie mix. |
