I searched a little but couldnt find anything too similar so i thought i'd just ask. I was given a 7 month old female shepherd on Friday night. Sage
. I was off all weekend so i didnt have to leave her alone at home at all. But tomorrow i have to go back to work . I got a wire crate but obviously havent had much time to work with her on making it a "friendly" place for her. Got her pad in there and worked with her a littel playing near it and in it and giving her treats inside it. but im still a little worried about putting her in there tomorrow morning when i leave for work. Ill be able to come back and let her out in the middle of the day after about 4 hours for lunch. I am just wondering if she will be alright in there or if it is a littel too early to leave her in a crate. Maybe should i leave her with a relative or friend while im at work??? Just wondering what you guys thoughts are on it. Thanks in Advance, Ryan and Sage |

Don't leave the pad in her crate when you cannot supervise her actions.....many puppies/dogs wind up in emergency rooms because of "eating or swallowing" things they shouldn't.
....an ounce of prevention....

I personally always put a blanket or bedding of some kind in my dogs crate, even with my 8 week old puppy I do that. I don't want my dog sleeping on the hard plastic, and although there is a risk of the dog shredding the bedding and choking, it's pretty unlikely.

Actually......it's more of a probability than an unlikeliness.
It is WONDERFUL if a dog/puppy does not chew it's bedding.....but not worth the possibility of the potential harm it can & will cause....just ask anyone whose puppy or dog almost died from such an accident. *IF it were me or a puppy buyer of mine....I would suggest: Try putting the bedding in the crate when you can first supervise it.....gradually allowing more and more time, until it can be "trusted" not to destroy the bedding. It only takes one moment of mistake to be a life time of regret......

Don't suppose the previous owners said whether she was crate trained?
If it is an option to leave her with someone for a day or two, go for it. Spend your evenings working on the crate introduction. Treat training worked well for us. Enjoy your new pup!!!

Well thanks for all the tips guys. Looks like we are gonna give it a shot tomorrow. Put here in there for a bit while I showered tonight and she only whined for a bit then lied right down. Just breaks my heart hearing that little whine and thinking of here all alone for that long
. And I'm not a soft dude trust me. But puppies just have a way of changing things lol.
