Great you get the time to make sure you have all the equipment and can 'study' up on getting a new puppy!

Having the best crate, making room for it beside your bed for the first few months, using the crate properly are all great things to read up on.

Plus the exercise/socialization that is VITAL to start from the day the pup hits the house. I always forget to work on the 'engagement' play training as soon as I should

It also may take time to find a great place to train, and the best places have waiting lists with sessions only starting every 6 - 8 weeks, so it helps to figure that out ASAP too!

Good luck with your new puppy!

Thank you MRL, I have been studying GSD puppyhood and feeding requirements since June. This will be my first puppy in about 20 years but I have had dogs my whole life. We had labs when we were first married and I managed to put a CD on them before I had to turn my attention to my children and the obedience training had to take a backseat to the kids and family life. Now the kids are grown and I can give my full attention to the puppy. I have crates in various sizes and the pup will sleep in a crate in our room.

I have been in touch with a trainier that if I'm not mistaken you recomended to someone else on this board Home

I have enough toys to keep an entire pack happy and went to petsmart on black friday to pick up a couple of XL dog beds and thanks to your videos of your dogs off lead hikes my husband and I have researched a few trails in our area to take him off lead.

I feel like the only thing I am missing at this point is the puppy, if you think of anything I've forgotten please post.

Right there with you. In fact, we pick our puppy up this evening. The breeder just called and said he has been checked in, and will be in the air shortly...

Congratulations! I'll be looking for pictures in the next day or so! I hope your pup has an uneventful trip.

First off congratulations!!!! I can wait to see pics of you little guy/girl.

I just also wanted thank you for educating your self on the breed and puppy hood in general. Also you found the perfect time in your life to put your full attention on your little one. Besides this forum I don't see other people putting fourth such great efforts of responsible pet owner.

Thank you, this is the perfect time to add him to our life and we are really excited to bring him home! Of course I would have preferred to housebreak a puppy in warmer weather but you can't have it all!
