Default Wow, He's SO Small.

This is what we hear whenever we meet another GSD owner while out with Rocky. Yes, he's 4.5 months and only 30 lbs, yes he's on the shorter side, YES he's purebred.

While leaving our training course yesterday we were approached by a woman with a gorgeous mountain of an 8 month old Shepherd. His back came to my hips, and im 5'6. He was a beast. All anyone around could comment on was how teeny Rocky looked.

I guess this is just a vent, I'm just tired of hearing comments about his size.

We love him, even if he ends up being a midget.

Oh, you should look through this thread - How heavy was/is your GSD at 6months

You will see there is a huge range of weights

Rocky will grow . He's in your avatar right ,he is cutie! By the way its not the size its the brains that makes a GSD.

Our 4 year old male is barely 24" so he's pretty small compared to other GSD's we see, but I like the size. He's quick and agile...and he doesn't take up nearly as much room on the couch as our female.

I would just tell them: "He is a GERMAN SHEPHERD, not a Great Dane. He isn't SUPPOSED to be HUGE!!!!!"

I think in some cases people are so used to oversized shepherds that when they see one that is going to fall within the actual breed standard they think it is small. Rocky is a cutie by the way!

Pffft. Great dogs, including great GSDs come in a range of sizes. Don't let other thoughts or opinions affect you, especially about something as minor as size. Cross your fingers & hope that regardless of sixe he's long lived, & mentally & physically sound & healthy.
