Not sure if this is the right place to post this but I have a question about setting up the christmas decorations, mainly the tree. We havent put anything up with a bit of fear that geminon will take it down haha. Anyone have any tips for putting up the tree and garland all that christmas-y stuff?

We put two eye bolts (circle with screw at one end, I think that's what you call them?) in the wall and then wrap twine around the tree trunk and through the bolts to keep the tree from being knocked over. It'll still sway back and forth, but it won't fall over. I had two trees knocked over before I learned my lesson.

We made a wooden box to set the tree on. Ours was not painted but I have seen some real cute painted like a giant package.

If you are worried I would do the eye-bolt thing and attach it to the ceiling or a wall. Guess it depends on the weight if you are doing live or artificial. Just as good practice I would put your eye-bolts in a stud.
We didn't do this last year but had no problem with our 1 year old (at the time) German Shepherd. He was curious about the tree, but after a few leave-its if he went in the area (or attempted to go behind the tree) he got the picture. Of course, we didn't leave him alone with it and I won't this year either. The cat is much more of a problem- but we are able to keep him out of it and instead lure him to sit in front of the warm fireplace. |

Yeah we attach the tree to the wall or the ceiling to keep it steady-ish. Our tree didnt get tethered last year though lol. It went up Christmas eve after the kids were in bed and it came down Christmas afternoon because I was all Bah Humbug! last year. Also didnt have the space to keep it up longer than that comfortably.

Scarlett has always been curious about the tree, but has never made any effort to topple it...she DOES choose a decoration or two as "hers" and will keep taking them off the tree. I keep only non-breakable stuff on the bottom 4' (just like when my children were little...AND for the same reason.)
We had an issue with a HUGE 17' tall tree falling over when we lived in Colorado. I found a stand that had 4' long rebar legs, a gallon water dish and a big spike that the tree was impaled on. That stand was great. We gave it away when we no longer had a house that would support an enormous tree. We have a basic waterfilled stand now.

Its been a long time since we have had a big dog in the house but as I remember it we had it tied to the wall like others have posted not for the dog but because the kitten would climb it. Our biggest problem was the dogs tail would take out any ornaments at "tail level"

I'm glad someone raised this topic. We didn't put a tree up last year out of fear. I'm going to try this year to put it in a corner and hoping he doesn't get the idea to go behind it. I do worry about the bulbs. They look like little red balls to him! Should be interesting.

This will be are first year, real tree. I'm thinking of using an expen around the bottom. My dogs are pretty good with visual barriers, they don't obsess over getting behind it.
