Default Need supplies from Amazon?

If you're getting a new puppy, chances are you may be in the market for various supplies (crate, training books, toys, clickers, pet pens, etc.). At Amazon.com, many of these things are available at a good price and can save you a trip to the store by having them shipped to your door. I wanted to share how you can get free shipping on many items. Amazon has a service called Amazon Prime. If you sign up for an annual fee ($79.00 ?), you can get free 2-day shipping for all items marked as "Prime". Many items will be available with a Prime designation. If you are in college, I believe you can sign up on-line for free Amazon Prime. If you are not in college at the moment, you can still get 3 months of Amazon Prime for free! It's simple. Go to
Amazon.com Help: Amazon Mom Amazon.com Help: Amazon Mom
and sign up for Amazon Mom. It's free to sign up and there's no obligation. You need not be a "Mom" - anyone can sign up. You'll get 3 months of free Prime shipping and it applies to all things (Prime), not just baby items. I've purchased many puppy items with free shipping through this program. If you do happen to buy an occasional item ($25 or more) from the "baby" section, it will add to your free months in the program. This is perfect for new puppy owners and a bonus for Christmas shopping too!

If the link doesn't show right, just Google "Amazon Mom" and sign up.

I found out that if you join Amazon Mom you get SOME of the benefits of Amazon Prime - like the free 2-day shipping, but you don't get the free streaming and Kindle Library. For those things, you have to have an actual Amazon Prime account. Still......it's a great deal to join the Mom deal and start getting free priority shipping!

I have an Amazon Prime membership. They also offer discounted overnight shipping on most items (like $4). Very useful when buying books and resources.

I do a ton of shopping on amazon, and because I'm on the mom program and buy enough baby stuff each month for our very spoiled son (he's still a baby, he's allowed to be spoiled), I get continued prime for any eligible item in any dept.

But for dog people, definitely note to yourself things like nylabones, etc can be had for about half price on amazon vs in store. I just bought some of the standard nylabones, souper size, for under $7. They are about $15 in petstores, though you can find them at wally world for about $7.50.
Amazon.com: Nylabone Dura Chew Bone, Original Flavor, Souper: Pet Supplies Amazon.com: Nylabone Dura Chew Bone, Original Flavor, Souper: Pet Supplies

Just an example.

But I buy a ton of stuff on there. Even more now that I an iphone and downloaded the amazon ap (free). So anything "big" that I'm wondering about in a store, price wise, I can scan it and it'll come up on amazon so I can see the price, reviews, etc. The wonders of technology....my mom went shopping with me today, running errands. We were buying my brothers son and my son xmas gifts, etc and I showed her the amazon ap and she was just fascinated. Brought me multiple items to scan...LOL

I tried Amazon Prime for a month. I did not find any free streaming video. Which is a bummer, because I don't have cable and rely on Amazon to catch up on some TV shows.

Do you have any examples of free videos you saw?

I think my peers in the states use Hulu for tv shows.
Also, websites like ABC will have their latest episodes online.

I have no idea if this is accurate or not, but I heard from another mom in my mom group that amazon put a freeze on signing up for the amazon mom program. My GUESS is because so many are abusing it by signing up for the free prime for 3 months. But if they are going to offer it, I guess they shouldn't be shocked that it gets abused by those who aren't parents and using it for that purpose. Heck, they even tell you that you don't have to be a parent to sign up so....? I'd guess the freeze will be over after the holidays, but who knows. They also recently changed the mom program from the advertised 30% off diapers/wipes to only 20% off, with no mention of it whatsoever until you went to place your next order. So that's another beef but what can you do, free is free and a discount is still a discount, even if not as much.
