do dogs cry?

i have had a dog in my life for as long as i can remember and know that they show are bunch of emotions! but crying?

i had a cairn terrier when i was a teen until about 9 years ago. she died when she was 16yrs old. when my mom died she went through a deep depression, the two of them were inseperable, she finally came around but was never the same.

our golden, who is 11, was my hubby and i first baby! he understands more than anyone gives dogs credit for. he knew before i did that i was pregnant with my first. when i cry he trys to cheer me up. he is very intune to his humans.

now my niko. he was 5 months yesterday and still learning alot. and hubby and i are learning too. around 2:45 am we woke up to the god awful howling, screaching, crying. hubby comes flying into our bedroom and finds niko has his leg caught under the radiator cover (don't ask how we have no idea) but he was freaking out somthing awful. hubby got his leg free, no visible bruises or limping (THANKFULLY) and he calms him down. he runs over to me for some more loving and i look at him and he is crying. OMG - his eyes were full of tears and they were dripping down his face.

in all the years of me owning a dog i have never seen one cry. sad? yup!!! stressed? yup!!! happy and smiling? yup again! but crying? not once this was a first.

Re: do dogs cry?

WOW!!- I can't say that I have ever seen a dog physically cry- tears etc but I am sure that they grieve as we do sense pain, happiness and fear....My Guinness actually smiles when you come home........he actually lifts his upper lip and scrunches his nose. Tail wagging like mad......

Stress, fatigue, joy, silliness, contentment, anxiousness....I have seen all of that but never physical tears, no.

Re: do dogs cry?

I had Kacie at the vet and they had to do a blood draw in her neck. It was hard for the tech to get a vein and Kacies eyes started to tear up, then they were running down her face. I know she was crying! But she isn't a whiner and never made a sound...
