Samson finally decided to join us in the pool today. Interestingly he had been a bit itchy lately. No fleas, and pretty sure we had it nailed down to an allergy related to seasonal grass or a recent change in food. We addressed both about a week ago, and the itching has gradually decreased. Well, since hopping in the pool it's poof, gone. 0 scratching. The pool is saltwater, very little chemical content other than salt, perfect PH. Never thought it would make a difference lime that though.
Salt water pools are common on a cruise ship or if you live on the beach. I am jealous if you have a true one. If this is a pool with a salt water generator like mine the salt gets converted to Chlorine. If that is what you have, test the chlorine levels. You still taste the salt water in the pool but its still chlorine, just a better chlorine. The chlorine produced by a salt water system has very positive ph. That reduces eye and skin irritation.
He inevitably drinks a bit, but not much. We keep fresh water for him on the porch, in the shade. At 41 years old I tend to spend more time on the porch and less time in the South Carolina sun than I used to too.
With only anecdotal evidence, I found that my skin seemed to heal better after a few dips in the ocean. I also know that if my big-boy played in the bay he drank enough water to get the runs on the walk back to the house. Also be careful of your dog drinking too much water. Water intoxication is a real problem. Other than that I wish I had a chance to play with my dogs in a pool. When I had a pool my then little mix breed didn't enjoy swimming.
See if this works. Not sure why it posts sideways. Here he is by the ponds behind the house with Ducky, Oreo, and Quack in the background (I did not name the ducks).
I'm officially jealous of your back yard space and ponds ...at least what I can see as I turn my iPad before the sideways pic repositions...well, sideways lol
I live 5 minutes from the ocean. My GS never gets fleas because of it. The salt water kills them. I believe he would retrieve sticks and floating friszies forever if we did not stop him. We always bring fresh water for him to drink because we experienced the explosions that happen when he drinks too much salt water. Wow!!! He gets a good hosing with luke warm water after the ocean. Yup... I put a hot water tap outside just for him
