Just curious, if the female is spayed how does this affect the male? Will he still try to mate? How do they usually get along, stuff like that.

Females go into season twice a year, it lasts about 3 weeks and they are only fertile the last part of the cycle. Males will try to win her over the entirety of the heat cycle but she will only allow a male to mate with her when she is fertile.

No heat cycle means your male will not have a reason to try to mate with her. He may however, try to mount her, and she may try to mount him. This doesn't have anything to do with reproducing it's just something dogs to for various reasons.

Males and females seldom fight, but it does happen.

As long as both are socialized and you continue to socialize them there should not be a problem. Precautions like separation while eating (which is a good idea in general anyway), no high value things like bones or yummy chews when they are together, and having two kennels that are their private space will help things go smoothly.

Make sure your spend lots of time with them! Together and one on one!
