Just had my guy neutered on monday. He's just over 12mths. He seems to be feeling pretty good, but he won't stop licking the area (i correct him constantly) and now has a minor secondary infection. He's on some antibiotics, but in the meantime I need to keep him from licking.
Obvuously, the e collar or the kong floating collar are options, but he's *miserable* in them and gets no sleep. We have experimented with boxers and a tshirt on backwards, but his GSD sloped back makes everything just slide off. Is there any way to rig either piece of clothing on a GSD specifically, with their body type, to cover the site?
If he has a secondary infection you may just need to do some tough love and keep the cone on him until he heals up. A little misery is better than a more sever infection and the vet bills that go with it.
He can open the incision up very important you keep that cone on him. We had Max neutered Monday l. Before the surgery I picked Max up a comfy cone. When Max came home he had the regular Elizabethan collar on - plastic I thought he would like it better as it was clear. He had a rough night with discomfort not liking collar is switched the collar wee hours of the morning to the comfy cone. He did much better that day. Now I don't know if he just used to the cone by then or was feeling better or a combo. He is does not mind the comfy cone at all. It need to be fitted right and not put on to loose. He will get used to it. The first night I was looking up many other ways to do this without he collar but did not have to.
Really happy with the comfy cone. Don't know how well he last two collars work but it is important they can't get to the incision area. If you keep taking the collar off they can't get used to it. Max is navigating stairs well they adjust pretty quick just give them a chance https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000...8-1-fkmr0&keywords=comfy+cone+extra+large+tan http://youtu.be/MbUPdBBRIG8 https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=M3tOSNXNSJ4 http://youtu.be/1le-HQUfiKc
Hope your boy is back to himself soon! The cozy cone can also serve as a Halloween costume - a dilophosaurus dinosaur from Jurassic park or Scream (dog version)!!! Loll!!!
