GSD with no papers

I bought a GSD puppy from a private owner back in February. His dogs were from out of country so they were not registered in the USA yet. We just wrote up a quick letter saying he sold me a pup for this amount and that he owed me papers and both signed. He said he had a couple setbacks from filling paperwork wrong and having to send DNA to AKC. That was around May, since then I have emailed and called and no answer. I know where he lives. Is there anything or anyone I can call to get my papers or money back. Thanks in advance.

A couple of hundred dollars to a lawyer and then taking this guy to civil court...although I'm not sure "papers" or a pedigree have any monetary value. You got a product, and a receipt for that product. Unless you have written proof that he promised to provide you with a pedigree, a court will probably say he owes you nothing.

There is absolutely no outside agency that can help you with this.

If the parents were born in Europe, they should have registration papers from there. Those are enough to get your pup AKC registered, though you have to jump through some hoops.

Unfortunately, it sounds like you've been scammed. A good breeder would be eager to show you their imports' paperwork.

I hope you didn't overpay for the puppy.

I'd suggest you enjoy your pup & file this one under lessons learned.

And if you want to show in performance events you can get a PAL number through AKC to do that.

It can take a while to get papers. Under the best circumstances. I'd advise a bit more patience. If you want your money back, you will be expected to return the pup.

I would take the loss to reduce the stress and move on; consider it a lesson learned and enjoy your dog, papers or not.
And yes, the AKC will not allow you to enter him/her in events as an intact dog. I had a non-AKC GSD and couldn't enter him either but I refused to alter him just because of the AKC's stupid rules and control.

This should be a lesson learned experience. Good breeders wouldnt make you jump through hoops for paperwork. As others have mentioned you can go to court if you want. But i dont think its going to do much. If you dont get the papers. Enjoy your puppy.
