Ideas for Dog supplies

Hello everyone,

So in preparation for my new puppy coming tomorrow, I've been busy getting the house ready and supplies gathered for her.

I felt it would be nice to start a thread that experienced GSD owners can impart their wisdom that will help new puppy owners with shopping for supplies

But to get started here are two of my ideas, mainly for new puppy owners who will be needing these items and for already experienced owners that like them.

Being a somewhat of a penny pincher and someone who enjoys building things I've taken on a couple projects. Which I will post as I finish them up.

In lieu of a baby gate, I decided to make a Dutch door for the room Luna will be primarily associated to. (If needed I can post a DIY of how I did this)

Over all cost of this door was less than $60 (this is accounting the cost of everything door, hardware, and paint), the MOST expensive item was the brand interior new door which was $30 at Lowes. This project is medium difficulty and takes about 20 hours to complete (most which is waiting for the primer and paint to dry). See pictures below.

The next item is a dog food container. These can get outrageously expensive as the most expensive one I saw was on Amazon for $140 made by Simplehuman and average ones are around $30.

I found these buckets at Lowes for just under $4 and they are food/beverage grade plastic made by Encore.

Make SURE that whatever plastic bucket you purchase is food/beverage grade plastic. Other plastics deteriorate over time and the chemicals that the plastic is treated with can absorb into the food.

These buckets are 5 gallon buckets that will hold 25 lbs of dog food. Ensure when you get them you scrub them out, remember these have been sitting in a hardware store and warehouse where there are paints and other chemicals that you do not want your dog to ingest.

The lids are Gamma Seal lids which are about $8 and make the bucket air tight. If you are unsure how these lids work, there is adapter that comes with the lid itself the attaches to the bucket and the actual lid is a screw on top. They will fit 5 - 7.5 gallon buckets.

Make sure to scrub these up too.

That's all I have for right now, since my other projects aren't completed yet, but I will add more as time goes by.

If anyone has any ideas to share please by all means do. Thanks!
