Coat development?

How old does a GSD need to be before you'll start to see how his coat will look as an adult?

I started noticing a big line of wavy hair down the back along the spine around 3-4 months. looks really weird for a while. my pup turns a year next week and just went to the groomers where they deshedded him and his adult coat looks to be mostly in. he has a little patch of weird hair that won't lie down near his croup that the groomer said his puppy hair is still present but that'll it'll be gone when he blows his winter coat in the spring.

Our puppy is exactly 3 months today. About a week ago I noticed 2 spots on his tail with more adult-like hair and that his fur overall was getting less fluffy. And sometime throughout the day yesterday he got that line of wavy hair down his spine. It wasn't there when I left for work in the morning but it was there when I got home in the afternoon.

I remember the "bed head" phase when the puppy fur was shedding out and the adult hair started poking up like weeds on the lawn.
By 7 months he has a very nice coat.
