Possible Storm D:

Alright guys a possible thunderstorm may roll by altho most unlikely but still just in case what reactions do dogs normally have since I know most don't like it. Do they just run around? Bite? Cry? I'm going to try convincing my mom to let me take em in putting em in the kitchen since we have tile there if not ill spend most my night outside with em but what things should I be expecting?

Why in the world make such a big thing out of this? Expect your dog to not react and just go with the flow. Your pup will read your energy and mirror you. Act like it it nothing, communicate the "meh! Borrriiinnng" reaction to your pup. Do not coddle him if he is unsure, it is rewarding attention for behaviour you do not want to encourage.

Go about your normal routine, and make a point of having some fun play time during the storm so your pup associates it with positive emotions.

I have had dogs that flip out and dogs that do not react at all... stay calm and treat it like nothing is happening maybe some treats and playtime if it starts getting loud outside and you should be okay... If it does rattle him a little you being calm and distracting him will help to minimize his fear.

Mine don't react at all because I never reacted to it. Zeus barked at thunder once and I just gave him treats and acted like nothing as happening, distracted him with a few tricks. Thats was it.

I am terrified of lightning. My dogs are not. I had a couple of bitches at the vet once, and was on their porch during a storm, and every time I tried to get to my car another strike of lightning would send me scurrying back to the porch. The dogs, didn't think another thing of it.

Some dogs have weak nerves, and storms are one of the things weak-nerved dogs sometimes have problems with. I listened to an AKC Judge say how the first thing she looks at is temperament, but if it was like this, and she jestured to the storm outside, she would take that into consideration. Hmmmm, got some storm-sensitive dogs in your lines?

The dog is going to have a problem with it or not. Don't set them up to have a reaction. If they do, just ignore or try to keep low key about it. Or if you are like me, tremble on the porch. I guess the thing to do is to wait and see, cross that bridge when you come to it, if you do.

Alright I'll try to maintain a calm manner. I guess its just worrying me a bit cuz neighboring friends in several cities nearby are saying a possible thunder storm is coming things like houses being rattled so guess I'm getting bit nervous. Would it be bad to bring em in the house for a few hours before my mom gets home so he can see me watching tv calmly play with em a bit or would that just be worse once I take em out?

act like there is no storm coming. if the storm does come, act normal. might want to try and use the storm to get your mother to allow dog to come in.

Well the thunder and rain hit and he's been making little whimpers so I just petted em gave a few treats as suggested and he seems to be doing better. I have errands to run still though that need to be done by 8 and I'd like to get em out the way the sooner but would it be wise to leave em now despite him seeming fine now or should I just wait a few hours?

Btw HUGE improvement in the rain today as opposed to last time he tried ducking looking for any little hiding spot crying now he's just chilling in it now not even taking cover and this is the dog who runs away from his water dish when I refill it :)

Does he have some place he can get out of the rain? I know he's outside, wondering if you have a porch/dog house, some cover for him?

Not a proper one at the moment but the side of the house was safe due to the roofing but he seemed to be just walking in the rain regardless chewing his kong as if nothing was going on. When I left I filled the kong and put peanut butter which he loves and when I returned nothing was destroyed or no holes dug up so he seems to do well :)
