A friend of mine rescued a GSD yesterday

Below are a couple of cell phone pics below (poor quality) of the GSD "Jack" that my buddy rescued. I've been here a while and I know what a knowledgeable bunch we have. He was told that Jack is between 7-9 months old which he doubts because of the small size of his paws and ears, I have no idea how to reply to this with my 8 month old having huge paws and ears. He was told that Jack is a mix but I see a lot of GSD in shape and color. I told him the usual measure him at the wither and weigh him. Anyone with any comments, suggestions, or just plain guesses?

I kind of saw something like that in the face of the first pic, but it may just be a trick of the mask coloring.

He's got a lot of GSD in any case.

As far as size matters, depending on the rescue case, if he was malnourished during his early months, that could be a cause of his "undersized" appearance, although he looks pretty healthy and it's tough to tell from the photos how big he is. He does look fairly mature sprawled out on that bed.

That may be the case as my friend told hi tail goes stright up when on alert, but it doesn't curl. My friend has a 15 year old GSD mix since a pup so Jack is going to a good home.

I ask him to take more with an slr he says despite what he looks like in the 2 pics he really is rather gangly and thin but eats like crazy.
