We all love Gsd's, but what are your other experiences?

I was pretty much born, to be a gsd owner, my grandparents had them, my father had them. I'm now on my third, counting my child hood friend. We also had a great Dane mix, Boxer mix, and a few Staffordshire terriors.

Personally as a Adult, I have owned 2 Gsd's, a Rotwieller, and although I do not own it, I also have extended experience with a Doberman. I watch one at my house up to two times a week. He is my Shep's best friend. In addition to the dogs listed above, I also reluctantly have to admit spending time with a wolf hybrid. (Owned by my college roomate, and eventually confiscated) Nothing bad ever happened, there just not legal to own in my state, That beautiful animal ended up playing the price for for a couple of 20 year olds stupidity in trying to own one.

As far as experience goes, I'm just a pet owner, who grew up with dogs my whole life. I feel like the I know them pretty well, but understand there is always more to understand.

What about you, What's your story, and experience level?

Sometimes people here have questions about different breeds. There is knowbody better to ask then someone who has owned that breed, and the also the breed we all here have.

We have owned lots if different breeds. Most were mixed, lots were GSD mixes. I have both positive and negative experience with dobes, GSD's, and Rotts. We have owned all size dogs. Amongst our family we have owned a chihuahua, Dalmatian, St. Bernard, lab, goldens, pit bulls, GSD's, Rotts, chows, pit bull mixes, terrier mix, a benji dog, husky mix, and collie mix. My mom fell in love with Rotts, she owned two and I owned 2, and if she didn't pass away a bull mastiff would have been her next dog. I remember every one of them and how we got them. They were all very special to us. Then there are the ones I presently own. Golden Retrievers and GSD's have always been my favorite breeds, but as I have found other breeds have found a home with me and I would never turn down any dog in need.

For me it's either a gsd or nothing. Maybe a mal but doubt it. Shepherds are my love.

ETA I meant that i'd settle for any shepherd, mal included (to me they're a shepherd) but gsd comes first.

One breed I would like to know more about is the Borebole, When it came down to purchasing my current dog, I narrowed my criteria down to two breeds, a Checosavakian Lineage gsd, or a borebole. I know I spelled that wrong, I recently read a post in the puppy thread that a member here is expecting a puppy. I'd love to hear more about that breed from a GSD owner.

Bully breeds here. BullMastiff/APBTT/Lab mix was my first dog then a Boxer/Pitt and PB Boxers to follow bullies all. Those dogs were easy for me! My GSD was my first real challenge! It was luv at first but he later proved to be a serious freaking issue and whole bag of big time GSD specific crap! Inter pack aggression "Rank drive" and people issues??? WTH!!!

My bully guys loved people, save for training my Boxer Struddell would have happily walked off or drove off with anyone(she was a serious people loving freak!) See you later dad...found another friend!! :) But training and discipline always ruled first over instinct!

My next two dogs are going to be another White Boxer and then a Boxer/American Bulldog mix.

Although on here...sticking with the other dog theme! I have learned that, what I always thought were Boxer/ABD crosses have most likely been Johnson type PB ABD's!!!

I let one slip through my fingers Johnson ABD because I though the listing was BS! Opps!! So apparently the Johnson Bull Dogs look like Boxer mixes? Who knew! :)

But me and Boxers. Boxers are known as the "Clown Prince of the Dog World!" That means something, ownership requires hanging on for Mr Toads, wild ride! Even when you raise train and love, a "perfect Boxer!" It's a Boxer thing, either you get them or you don't!
They have a very high "goofiness content!" :)

My GSD made me a much much better trainer! He did things I never knew I taught! Don't go out the door (front) without permission. All my dogs knew this but the back door,
?? My other dogs I open the back door and boom they were gone! MY GSD, discpline to the extreme! First time I open the back door for him after teaching the front door rules. I go to let him out the back, I open the door..he doesn't move??? What's up with this dog??? I think and say 'outside?" and out he goes!!!! :p

He automatically transferred a" threshold" command from the front door to the backdoor!! I never made that distinction, he did a door is door! Many more such moments were to come! He was a challenge he made me a better trainer. I did resent him for awhile because of his attacks on my Bull/Mastiff/APBT mix! Who never started a fight or ever went after Rocky or injured me!!! All of which Rocky did! But Gunther passed and Rock was still here.

I had to let it go we continued working together, he learned what I expected, he delivered! So respect followed! He always had the best care I could give him that was a given! But he earned my respect!

And then one day he saved my butt while I was trying to protect him! That of course was it! He was my mine no reservations! I/we had a very rough road with him but I finally got the GSD thing! And I will have my Boxer this year but I will also always have a GSD! :)

There is someone on here who either has one or knows of them. Knows a breeder or rescue something like that?

I always though they were Boxers size and long gone. In the history of Boxers Borebols come up. But yeah I guess not! Not a dog for the inexperienced! :)

The first dog we had was a GSD and a mixed breed. When I was 6 or 7 they were stolen. The next dogs we had were two golden retrievers (I loved them) and an old English sheep dog. I really did not care for that dog. These were my parents dogs. After I moved away they had a yellow lab another old english sheep dog (still didn't like it), 4 scottie dogs, a shepherd pit mix and a dachshund. I didn't live with them, but I was around them often.

My personal dogs were a Siberian husky. That is not an apartment dog or it didn't get enough attention, but it tore everything up. We found it a good home. We have a house now and have two mixed breed (shepherd, chow, poodle) and the GSD. We also had Riley. He was a GSD with health issues. Unfortunately vet care, specialists and love were not enough to save him. :(. I still miss him so much every day.

I forgot, the parents also had a golden retriever pit mix. He was huge and very protective. They also had several pits used for wild bore hunting. A couple of them were ok, but most of them would fight at the drop of a hat. I don't care for pits.

I grew up with three huskies. My first personal dog was a Rotty.. But in my opinion nothing even comes close to GSD's..

My first five dogs were all Rottweilers, my favourite breed.

Sheltie, beagle, couple of terrier mixes ( one of which was the devil incarnate), fox hound mix, then huskies for years, now the GSD. Love a smart dog! Oh and an Afghan stray...NOT a smart dog....loved the huskies for their smarts and playfulness. Love the GSD for his sweetness and brains.
