Just noticed this on my boy and he doesn't seem like he's in pain! He's totally normal but what is this?!

Potential hive, which can be red. Could be a Formation of a hot spot, which is a skin infection. Could be a mass. Doesn't look like a cyst you don't normally see skin discoloration.

I would have a vet take a look just in case it is a mass, or a hot spot because you want to treat that before it gets too big

I also think it could be a hot spot. Make sure you check with the vet first. They do have ointment for hot spots at petsmart. My guess is that it'll be cheaper to buy there than the vet office.

Could be a beginning hot spot, but in my experience, they look "wet". I used apple cider vinegar mixed half and half with water sprayed on the spot twice a day for a couple of weeks. I don't like to use Antibiotics unless necessary, and Rudy's was at the base of his tail which he couldn't reach to scratch and infect. But, that red spot is not raised or wet looking, it almost looks like he got nicked by something that didn't break the skin.
