Color Opinions

Hi everyone! I am new here and just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Mandy and I live in MI. I am married and have 3 kids. We lost our 1st German Shepherd 2 years ago after 13 great years with him. We finally decided yesterday we were ready again and added Luca to our family. We are excited to have another great dog!
My first German Shepherd Owen was black and tan. My husband and I have been looking at different colors and breeders for awhile. Of course I was/am not specific on color but more on personality. I was wondering though what your opinions are on Luca's color? His mom was sable and his dad black and tan. I have seen many pictures of how their coloring changes as they get older and am just curious as to what you would classify him as and how much you think he will change color wise?
Thank you!

Do you have any other pictures? Maybe with a little better lighting and of him from the side standing up as well. With that pic it looks like's there's a color filter on, which makes him appear liver colored, and I'm assuming he's really black and tannish.

Although I will add, if he is liver

I had a gold sable that looked very much like a black and tan when she was a pup. Time will tell.

Really cute, I would say black/tan, but some more pics might tell more, enjoy that pup! Bob

You "decided yesterday" and went out to get a puppy right after your decision?
I'd say your pup is a black and tan and will most likely end up tan with some black. Who is the breeder? Did you see the mother, any information on the pedigree?

No, we didn't just decide yesterday. This has been a long process and decision. We have looked at many breeders and many dogs and actually visited a few of them and decided with this one.
Yes, we did see both the mother and father. Like I said his mom was sable and dad was black and tan.

Here are a few more pictures that I was able to take today. These show his coloring a little bit better.
