More Craigslist Surfing
So the other thread got me to thinking and I decided to peruse my local craigslist using the search "german shepherds." I found tons of ads for puppies as you can imagine. I also found a couple wanting to find a male for breeding. But the ones that break my heart are the ones where people are wanting to sell or give away their "beloved" pup/dog. This one especially got me: 1yr old White German Shepherd

If I had the room and more time at home to ease the transition I would most definitely "rescue" this young man. Owner seems at least a little responsible and concerned but I just can't imagine. I can't even imagine taking his picture for such a thing..."Here Blitz,,stand still and let's take a good shot so mommy can sell you."

Or how about this one...wants a female GSD..not NEUTERED: WANTED- FEMALE GERMAN SHEPERD- NOT NEUTERED-FREE

Or this guy who might want a GSD or a Great Permengese for free...he has a home. What?

wanted free pups

And last, but most certainly not least, what- pray tell- is an NKC registration?

LOL craigslist freaks. We gave away a portable dishwasher on CL, after the 10th or so call with questions, I heard my husband tell them 'No it doesn't have any scratches, it came out of the Elvis Presley suite at the Builtmore.' Dogs on CL, never, ever, I wouldn't buy a jollyball off CL.

Although I sold a lot of kid stuff on CL, strollers, baby monitors, outgrown bikes, a swing set. Way easier than having a yardsale and I found mothers were the easiest to deal with.

Mixed emotions on that. If you really care for an animal and can't meet it's needs and need to rehome it to someone that can and will then I think that's great. It's more selfish to hang onto the animal for your own emotional reasons than to recognize someone else can give it a better life.

As for the others yeah silly stuff.

I am ok with rehoming if the animal can have a better life. I'm not a fan of doing it via CL however.
There are fb pages locally with buy/sell/trade and they are just as bad or worse, and the admins are over the top with drama.
I have a cat that I'd love to rehome, but won't because I don't know that she'd be better off elsewhere. I'd never list her on a webpage. If only she'd just own the dogs, her life would be golden!

Sweet Dog Needs Home

Theres a fun one. For a dog that was hit by a car attacked by a pack of dogs and left for dead he is looking really well.

I got an 11 year old GSD/GSD mix free off CL. I'll be honest, just reading the ad I thought this was a case of an old dog with failing health and an owner too cheap to bring the dog to the vet and do the humane thing. I was willing to do that, but when I went to initially meet the dog, he surprised me with his energy and joy for life. My friend does GSD rescue so I agreed to foster him and she would list him through the rescue. She was willing to pay for his vet care, but I declined and got him sorted out. He was very overweight, had a lick granuloma on a front paw, had a large but benign tumor on one thigh, and had some arthritic knees but nothing that needed work, just old dog stuff. I assumed because of his age and a few health problems he'd basically "retire" with me and be spoiled for a few more years, but after a few weeks, a really nice couple that runs a huge cattle ranch adopted him! I would take this dog back in a heartbeat but based on the stories and photos I get from his new adopted owners, I don't think he's going anywhere ever again :) I tried not to judge the previous owners. Turns out the lady who posted him had been taking care of him for her son who basically abandoned him. She was in over her head with him because her own dog had some health and behavioral issues and she was working a ton to keep her son in a private school. She was very grateful we answered the ad and she actually did ask us a lot of questions and wanted to check our house.

Sometimes you can find a gem on CL!

That's a great story and I meant it when I said I would buy that White GSD in a heartbeat if I had the space/time. The others were just wacky, yes. And trust me, working at a shelter, I know that people do sometimes have to make a decision that is in the best interest of the dog...I just can't imagine having to make it :(

Same here in Dallas.
it just makes me think...Free GSD....something must be wrong with it??
GSD to good home 600.00 no papers.
We had the best pet in a Doberman we bought in the paper 10 years ago. just a Byb who really loved his dobermans.
Thise Craigslist stories just break my heart.
Then you click on the ads that warn what happens to "free" dogs out there.
Sick, sick, sick.

Here's my Craigslist dog . She is amazing and exactly what she is suppose to be. Loves family, aloof with strangers, alert, loyal, excels in everything you ask of her, and most importantly solid nerves. She is a true gem and she has stolen my heart.

CL is the place for flippers to scan or others to find bait dogs. Many are cons, can easily sway the seller that they would be the best home ever, because some of the sellers really just want the animal gone. Most of the dogs in my area CL are pitbulls or pit mixes.

After the snow melted recently, several dead dogs were found dumped in a park, wonder how many of those were CL finds.
