Default GSD's and indoor living space

Just added a second dog; my first dog is 60 lb gsd/husky mix and I recently adopted a 1 year old that is likely pb or close to pb gsd. He is 50lbs. I live in a roomy apartment. I am a business owner that is well managed so I don't need to be there daily. We are surrounded by parks and the dogs get plenty of exercise. When inside my apt. the dogs are napping on the floor. They seem 100 percent content with the size of my apartment. It irks me however when I get the comments on how cruel it is to keep such big dogs (saint Bernard's are big, my two barely tip the scale at a 100 lbs combined!) Cooped up in an apartment and how I need a backyard (right, because buying or leasing a single family home with a yard is just so cheap and easy- maybe I can get a farm with acres and acres) I sort of already know the answer here- seems a gsd would rather live in a shack with his people than alone on acres of lush forest. Just curious on others feedback

My dog hates being left in the backyard. She would much rather be on the couch.

There's another thread on this. As long as their exercise requirements are met, your dog probably doesn't care if you live on a detached home or on the 4th floor

Thanks for replies. I often remind people there is no simple correlation between a dog'size and how much room he needs. Compare a 40 lb border collie and a 110lb Rottie. Now which one is gonna do better in an apartment? While your rottie is peacefully napping your BC is bounces of the walls when not obsessively stairing a tennis ball waiting or 'herding' inanimate objects into piles in your home

All dogs are different. We live on 5 acres but have not gotten it fenced yet. During the day he has the run of a 5x20 dog run with a doggie door to a large back porch. He would be much happier staying out in the yard when we are gone but he loves his porch. I can tell he is extra wound during the nasty cold weather but other wise he gets out enough that it is not a problem. When we are home he is either with us outside or in the house.

My Sam loves my bed and we go on walks 4 to 5 times a day. She goes with me to appts and where ever I go, lot of stores allow her to go in.
