How do I make her feel like she has a job when I put her backpack on?

I got one and she doesn't mind me putting it on but I'm not sure she sees the significance of it. Any advice appreciated - thanks.s

Stick a water bottle in the pack and shape a command for something like "bring me water". Make a fuss every time you get the bottle out and take a swig. She will get the picture that she is bringing you a wanted item. Or even better make the pack the focus, so it's like "I need the pack, girl" and then make a pointed commotion of opening zippers and the like. A cool add-on would be a command to turn around to access both sides. I taught my old guy to "gimmie your butt" so I could massage his rear legs.

I agree, Chance always gets excited if I use the backpack and put his water bottle and poop bags in the pouches and use them while walking. Your dog will get it.

It will come with time. Only put the pack on her when you are going to ask that specific task or "job" of her, or if it is for a specific event, like hiking, only put it on her when you are ready to go. She will learn to make the association :)

i don't think a dog can think in those terms to know
what's significant. when i tell my dog "get your leash"
he doesn't know the significance of a leash. he's associated
the leash with going out.

are you looking for a certain reaction to the pack?

I used one with Harry and I put human ankle weights in each side about 1 kilo each side, he just accepted it, not sure if he realised he had a job to do.

If he has associated the leash with going out, doesn't that means he understands the significance?
