Default Subaru Forester, good dogmobile?

Anyone have one?

I am hoping to get out to the dealership this week. Do they fit a 42" crate fairly well? Can you fit it the long way, or across the short way?

The other option is a minivan, but they are not nearly as fuel efficient and might be a lot bigger than I need, so I'm hoping the Forester will do the trick for me. I also just don't want to drive something that is way bigger than I need, and the Subaru's have all wheel drive which would be a mercy with this winter we've had.

Right now I am struggling with a Civic, and I am sick to death of it. lol

I think the 2014's the seats don't fold completely flat (there's a bit of a bump), but I'm hoping there's enough room that I can make it work.

Thanks!

I have a 2011 Outback, and the XL vari crate fits in the back when broken down (top off) and back seat flat. Love the mileage and the traction is great. Couldn't be happier, very well engineered. I looked at the new Forester, and was very impressed. That will be my next ride. Great for winter!

Oh good, I'm glad to hear that. This winter has been hellacious with the snow, and trying to fit all my gear in my Civic, the air is blue on a regular basis. lol

I haven't been this excited to car shop in a long, long time, but I am so fed up with my current ride that I can't wait to get into a new vehicle! The thought of having a hatchback makes me giddy!!! lol

I just bought a new car, and looked at several including the Forester. I believe the Forester does not have rear air conditioning which was important to us. If you can afford a step up, I'd look into the Outback, but then again you could not get rear AC unless you opted for a leather package. The Out back comes in both 4 and 6 cylinder.

We also like a Honda Crosstour - like an Accord but its a station wagon.

I ended up getting a Toyota Venza V6, it is huge inside. Both the Honda and Toyota have options of 4 or 6 cylinder and AWD.

A friend with 2 GSD bought a Suparu, I can't remember if it was a Forester? but it was an SUV, anyway, her dogs can't sit up comfortably, the back is not tall enough for them.

We bought a new car last year and I asked to take it on on the test drive home and pop one of my GSDs in the back to see if they would fit comfortably, they agreed and I bought the car because there was plenty of room - bought a Holden Captiva 7 seater.

Ask the dealer if you can do the same with their demo model.

LOL, about taking your dog for a test drive! We also did that at the Honda dealer.

Here's a tip for test drives , when you start to narrow down what you want, see if you can rent one for a day or two. I didn't even think of this until after I bought our car. This would have eliminated some unpleasant issues with the salespeople.

I think the Outback would be smaller/lower than the Forester, would it not, being that it's more of a wagon type of vehicle?

I know the Forester has the most cargo space in it's class. I really hope it will work. Honda doesn't have anything I want or that will work for me that I saw, which is too bad because it would make turning my car in a lot easier.
