Doing so for a friend. He was surrendered to my vet. His ear is tattooed "CEB115"... Supposedly 11 months old, give or take. Anyone able to point me in the right direction to find out more about where he came from? Supposedly a German import

11 month old GSD pup bred well enough to have an ear tattoo, and a sweet playful temperment... He won't have a problem getting adopted. Vet said he had excellent hips too

Not a german import. They have only been doing microchips for the last two years...

Is he microchipped?
There may be a way to inquire through the AKC, he might be registered. Both my dogs are and their tattoos are listed. Not sure about SV, FCI etc assuming he is papered at all. The only other way I can think, is to post this on a few breeder sites and see if anyone recognizes the series. |

True, but I know of a few imports who's chips couldn't be read by even universal readers

Sorry but where is it mentioned he has a micro chip ,I see where he has an ear tattoo which is totally different! Unless I'm not seeing all the list! If its an ear tattoo would it not read the same as ear tattoos in North America? He is a beauty too.

MiraC,
It was mentioned that the dog had a tattoo and was a German Import. I clarified that no imports have been tattoo'd, only microchipped, for the last two years or so...

The (prior) owner stated he was imported (I cannot verify that to be true). He *does* have a tattoo (seen with my own eyes). The vet couldn't read a chip. They did take a battery of Xrays and will look for the chip tomorrow incase their reader couldn't read it. I know of a number of imported dogs who are chipped but it is not readable by most readers including universal readers, and these are dogs I know personally were imported. The dogs name is "Blesk" which I believe is Czech yes?

Still don't understand why there is no International tattoo registry...what is the point of them for ID(other than trialing) if you can't trace them?
Chips can be reactivated thru magnet swipes too... |
