2nd Dog!

Hey all,

For those of you with multiple dogs, what are some things I should keep in mind? I've had Dante for over a year now (almost 13 months to be exact) and have owned other GSD's in the past as well. However, I've never had more than 1 dog at the same time.

Things to keep in mind if I adopt an older dog? A puppy? Another male? A female?

Thanks!

Biggest rule in my book is to make sure you get the right temperament and energy to fit into your pack already (human and dog alike). I have one female (Dogo Argentino) and she will take down any other female that is same size or bigger than her...super long story. My other 4 dogs are males and get along great. You are pack leader and as long as you say it's ok it's ok.

It really depends on all the temperaments involved. I thought for sure I was possibly going to have problems when I brought in a second female, but I was wrong. I think the age difference worked wonderfully in my case. I would not push getting a third female, but I am going to get another male. I am very blessed to have very good tempered dogs that are great with anything I bring into the house. I still want to keep it as balanced as possible so there are no problems in the future.
