Default Cleaning leash used on another dog?

Just a quick question. I bought a 4 foot nylon leash awhile back that I have used to walk dogs at the shelter nearby. I keep it in the car and away from my 6 foot leash I bought for my puppy that'll be here soon, and it's been through the washing machine.

Just wondering if putting it through the washing machine will really clean it or if I should just throw it away. I would hate for it to have some virus on it or whatever, but if it's cleanable it would be nice to have a shorter leash or one to keep in the trunk of the car whatever. If it's just not worth the risk I have no problem buying a new one, it was like 10 bucks LOL just curious your guys opinions.

I guess if you are really concerned with germs from the shelter dogs, you could run a nylon leash through the washing machine. I've used the same leashes on my dogs here at home,as I do with shelter dogs with no problems though.

I wash mine. Throw them in with a load of towels, it should be fine. I do not dry them. You may want to use a bit of bleach in the wash cycle, if it's a concern.

if youre that worried, and I am about my girl too, do a 10 percent bleach soak for 30 seconds prior to the wash.

I wash all my dog and horse rugs in bleach whenever they get washed Just throw it in the washer with some other stuff or tie something around the snap so it doesn't bang around in the machine so much

Thank you all Sounds like I'm a little paranoid, but I will take the suggestions and just bleach it a bit and wash. They were just very insistent on telling us "dont use your shelter leash on your own dogs" etc and I wasn't sure if it was a super serious thing

At the shelter I volunteered at, this wasn't a germ issue. It was more because the shelter thought it was unfair for your dog to have to smell 50 other dogs on his belongings. I think some dogs are bothered by this?

If I have pup who is not fully immunized you won't see me at the shelter, where I volunteer.

Yeah, I have put a pause on volunteering for this exact reason. You never know what gets on your shoes/clothes.
